『アメリカ大陸及び西インド諸島の歴史』

著者(1549-1625)はスペインの歴史家。本書の原書スペイン語版の題名は "Historia General de los Hechos de los Castellanos en los Islas y Tierra Firme del Mar Oceanos"(4 volumes, 1601-1615)で、通称 "Historia General de los Indias Occidentales" と呼ばれている。1492年から1554年までの西インド諸島及びラテン・アメリカの侵略植民開拓史である。著者と同じスペインの先輩歴史家 Bartorame de las Casas(1474-1566)の未発表資料を活用している。本書では、アメリカ開拓の最初の60年間を、10年ずつ6つの時代に区分し、それぞれの時代のヒーロー的探検家や征服者にスポットをあてて、列伝的に記述する方式を採用している。
